Lead actors elevate 'I Love You, Man' beyond the ordinary
Director: John Hamburg
Cast: Paul Rudd, Jason Segal, Rashida Jones
Peter (Rudd) is getting married but realises he has no really close male friends, one of which would make a suitable best man … the search, via a series of ‘man dates’, is on to find his ideal companion, who might just be Sydney (Segal).
In a run-of-the-mill comedy both Rudd and Segal manage to lift the conventional plot – a might-be-buddies affair – into a higher level than it perhaps deserves.
It is a well-paced and often quite funny film set around that difficult subject of male bonding and the two leads do work well together.
It is, though, another example of a good idea not fully realised.
