'17 Again' recycles plot of better films

Director: Burr Steers

Cast: Zac Efron, Matthew Perry, Leslie Mann

Cert: 12

One for the millions of early-teen females who drool over the handsome, plastic hunk that is Efron … for anyone else finding themselves trapped in a cinema and unable to escape the screaming the good news, sorta, is that it’s undemanding pap.

It’s also devoid of originality – think 'Big' and '13 Going On 30' and all those other films in which bodies and ages are swapped with predictably indifferent results … here the least likely exchange is between Efron and Perry, and it simply doesn’t work.

It’s about going back in time to High School when life was full of promise, escaping from now when the best laid plans have gone wonky.

So loser Perry gets the chance to revert back to being the thrusting Efron and starting over.

Star Rating: 2/5
