REM frontman Michael Stipe desperately tried to pull Kurt Cobain back from the brink of suicide just days before his death.

The rocker spoke to the Nirvana frontman - a close friend of Stipe's - in early 1994, after realising Cobain had plummeted into a pit of despair.
