Actress's 'Twittering' helps save suicidal woman
Demi Moore helped save the life of a woman who claimed to be suicidal today by posting a message on Twitter.
The woman sent the 46-year-old actress a message which read: “Getting a knife, a big one that is sharp. Going to cut my arm down the whole arm so it doesn’t waste time.”
Moore re-posted the message on her Twitter page with messages saying: “Hope you are joking” and “Everyone I was very torn about responding or retweeting that woman’s post but felt uncomfortable just letting it go.”
Other users of the website then called police and the woman was found uninjured.
Later, Moore wrote: “Thanks everyone for reaching out to the San Jose PD i am told they are aware and no need to call anymore. I do not know this woman...”
She added: “It is my understanding that the situation was not a joke and that through the collective efforts here action was taken to provide help!”
A spokesman for the San Jose Police Department told Access Hollywood they “received several phone calls” about the woman starting in the early hours of Friday morning.
The calls were coming in from “all over the place, from far away places”, the spokesman said.
He added that they “did locate the subject” and she had not hurt herself.
She was “taken for evaluation”, police said.
