‘Monsters v Aliens’ well worth seeing in 3D
Directors: Rob Letterman/Conrad Vernon
Cast: Reece Witherspoon, Hugh Laurie, Seth Rogan, Will Arnett
Cert: PG
A 3D version of this spoof horror film is also on release and since it’s such a terrifically funny, if not truly original, film it’s well worth seeking out for the heightened special F/X.
It does bring us another example of outstanding animation but overall the film is good, but not brilliant.
The story, conventional enough, is about young Susan (Witherspoon) who is struck by a meteorite and turned into a 50ft woman.
She is whisked off to a secret government establishment where she finds herself held with other monster freaks.
Their services are ultimately called upon to save Earth from an invasion of aliens … the sort of plotline we’ve seen since the black-and-white days of B Movie sci-fi.
Indeed, there are quite a lot of references to those faraway frighteners, but very little that is innovative.
It really does improve considerably when seen in 3D.
Star Rating: 3/5
