‘Knowing’ could have done more

A somewhat contrived thriller that manages by its conclusion to be entertaining, while still leaving you wondering why it wasn’t better.

A somewhat contrived thriller that manages by its conclusion to be entertaining, while still leaving you wondering why it wasn’t better.

The story concerns a mysterious letter consisting of random numbers left 50 years previously in a new school’s time capsule by a little girl who hears voices. When the capsule is dug up and taken home by young Caleb (Canterbury) to scientist dad (Cage).

Further investigation of the numbers reveals a connection with past – and possibly future – events and disasters such as 9/11 and the tsunami … but what coming bloodbath do the final numbers predict, and can our hero prevent it?

The film is hampered by a weak screenplay though helped by some nifty ‘plane and subway action scenes with some clever-ish plot twists thrown in … but there’s still that feeling that more could have been drawn from the basic premise.

Star Rating: 3/5
