Goody 'immensely proud' of Govt cancer test review

Ailing Jade Goody was “immensely proud” tonight after the British Government said it would review the current age limit for cervical cancer testing.

The terminally ill 27-year-old former 'Big Brother' contestant was “increasingly weak and sleeping a lot”, her spokesman Max Clifford said.

But, after hearing that a panel of experts would consider whether women under 25 should be offered smear tests, Goody told Mr Clifford: “It’s too late for me, but it will not be for millions of others.”

Mr Clifford said: “You just could not buy the sort of publicity that Jade’s plight has raised for cervical cancer. It has been unbelievable.”

'Big Brother' host Davina McCall said her heart went out to Goody and her family.

McCall said the Goody experience had been a “huge rollercoaster” but there was lots of love and support on hand.

She said: “Obviously my heart goes out to Jade and her family and her boys and her mum because I always think it’s so hard for mums as well.

“You can never prepare yourself to lose your baby before you and I feel very sorry for Jackiey (Budden) as well.”

McCall fronted the 'Big Brother 3' show in 2002 which propelled Goody to stardom with comments like: “Where’s East Angular though? I thought that was abroad.”

She was also on hand to interview Goody after her ill-fated appearance on 'Celebrity Big Brother' in 2007, when thousands of people complained about the treatment of Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty at the hands of Goody and others.

The race row attracted the most complaints in regulator Ofcom’s history.

McCall was being interviewed on the Christian O’Connell Breakfast Show on Absolute Radio in a bid to win money for Comic Relief on the station’s Who’s Calling Christian competition.

Mr Clifford said Goody was glad to be home and had spent the previous two days with friends as well as her husband Jack Tweed and two sons.

He added: “She’s very weak, sleeping a lot of the time, but she’s not in any pain. She’s in as good a position as possible.”

Goody looked frail as she left the Royal Marsden Hospital in London accompanied by her husband on Wednesday to return to her home in Upshire, Essex.
