Dog steals show in 'Marley and Me'
Director: David Frankel
Cast: Owen Wilson, Jennifer Aniston, Kathleen Turner, Eric Dane
Cert: PG
It’s a dog’s life in Hollywood … can’t escape the slew of films featuring our four-legged friends.
So here’s another one, featuring the cute - if slightly destructive – Marley whose motto is clearly based on the notion that everything is fair game for eating and/or wrecking.
The film is based on a true story – and best-selling book – in which journalist John Grogan (Wilson) bought a puppy for his broody wife (Aniston) in the hope that it would buy him time to love the notion of fatherhood.
It’s a fun, if slight, film in which Marley steals all of the scenes simply by being a dog. So don’t expect there to be a strong plot.
Wilson and Aniston make a nice couple, even if their characters aren’t fully rounded-out, and pooch lovers will delight in the antics of our small, energetic hero.
