Seasick Steve flouts Tube alcohol ban
Brit Award nominee Seasick Steve flouted London's alcohol ban on the Tube as made his way to tonight’s ceremony.
The 67-year-old blues musician, the oldest person to ever be nominated for a Brit, swigged from a bottle of whiskey and played a surprise busking gig at Earl’s Court underground station before heading to the award.
The Best International Male nominee, whose real name is Steve Wold, said: “I heard you’re not allowed to drink on the Tube but I think I’m gonna need a few drinks for tonight.
“I’m not going to be playing at the Brit Awards. I’m going to be drinking - what else do you do at these things?”
The California-born singer drew a crowd at the Tube station and even earned a few pounds in small change after entertaining with two of his songs.
He said: “I used busk a lot. Mostly in Paris on the Metro, but on the street a lot too. That’s how I lived.
The Dog House Boogie singer was not confident he is going to take home a Brit tonight.
“I ain’t winning.” he said. “I’ve told people not to bet on me because it ain’t lined up that way, I don’t believe. So I ain’t got no speech.”
He said he hadn’t heard of the award until he was nominated.
“I never heard of no Brit thing but I think if it means that people think you done a good job then that’s good,” he said.
Steve also revealed he doesn’t plan to play Glastonbury festival this year.
He said: “I’m going to play a few festivals. I’m not supposed to say where yet.
“I can actually say I’m pretty sure I’m not playing Glastonbury. They been real nice to me but I played twice in a row now so I’m not sure about that one to be honest.”
