Tiernan to make charity trip to Russia

Irish comedian Tommy Tiernan will make a road trip to Russia later this year in a bid to raise awareness and funds for Irish based charity To Russia with Love.

Tiernan has also decided to donate his Winnebago motorhome to the cause and will drive to Bryansk in Western Russia to view the charity’s work.

When Tommy returns from his road trip, the Winnebago will be up for auction with all proceeds going to the charity, which works with abandoned and orphaned Russian children.

Tiernan will also be appearing in the National Concert Hall on Wednesday, February 25 at 8pm for a 'Late Late Show' style evening of comedy, music, chat and entertainment with Gay Byrne.

He will be joined on stage by Boyzone's Keith Duffy, novelist Marian Keyes, celebrity chef Neven Maguire, pianist Finghin Collins and comedian Brendan O’Connor, and soprano Cara O’Sullivan, among others.

"Our educational programmes go a long way towards ensuring a brighter future for these orphans, however such initiatives are very costly to run and we are appealing to the legendary generosity of the Irish public to help us raise these vital funds," says Debbie Deegan, To Russia with Love founder.

"We have fantastic line-up of talented Irish performers who have given their time and services completely free and we would invite people to support us and enjoy our gala evening in the National Concert Hall on February 25."

Tickets are available from €50 from the National Concert Hall Box office on 01 4170000 or see www.nch.ie. For further information on To Russia with Love see www.torussiawithlove.ie.
