Beyonce and Hudson claim Image awards

Beyonce and Jennifer Hudson both glided away with trophies and wowed the audience with individual performances during the 40th annual National Association of Coloured People Image Awards.

Beyonce won the female artist category while Hudson picked up the new artist award. They co-starred in the 2006 film 'Dreamgirls'.

More than 30 awards honouring achievements and performances of people of colour in TV, film, music and literature were handed out during the glitzy ceremony at the Shrine Auditorium.

'The Secret Life of Bees' won for motion picture. 'Grey’s Anatomy' won for TV drama. Acting winners included Will Smith, Rosario Dawson, Sean Combs, Hill Harper and Chandra Wilson.
