Goody given new drug in cancer battle
Cancer-stricken Jade Goody is being given a new drug to help combat her spreading illness, the reality TV star revealed today.
The 27-year-old, who was diagnosed with cervical cancer last August, said she was starting a two-month course of Topotecan after being given the news that tumours had now been found in her liver, bowel and groin.
The chemotherapy drug is still being tested in the UK and is used by sufferers who do not respond to more conventional treatments.
Jade told The Sun: “It has given me a glimmer of hope.”
The mother of two is said to have sobbed “I don’t want to die” after being given the news that the cancer spread through her body.
Yesterday doctors told her they were now treating her to prolong her life rather than cure the cancer, The Sun reported.
Goody, who has lost her hair from chemotherapy treatment, told the newspaper: “I am devastated. I am frightened and I am angry. I don’t want to die because I have so much to live for.
“The reality is I have gone from a 40% chance of a cure to seeing how long I can stay alive.”
Boyfriend Jack Tweed, 21, was said to be “numb” over the news and Goody has begun preparing a will.
Her sons are staying with their father, TV host Jeff Brazier.
