Singer Katy Perry has laughed off reports she is planning a vow of celibacy for 2009 - insisting she would rather die than abstain from sex.

The 'I Kissed A Girl' singer split from Gym Class Heroes frontman Travis McCoy last December, and announced plans to remain celibate soon after, saying: "I've actually taken a vow of celibacy this year… no kissing anyone. Just my cat, Kitty Purry."

However, Perry now insists that the comment was just a joke and she is determined to land herself a new man.

She told People.com: "I am not going to be celibate. That was a joke, and any fine journalist would have got that. Please, celibacy for the whole year? I’d rather die."
