Why did somebody behind their vast Hollywood desk reckon this terrible film would be worth spending money on?

It’s one of those twee films in which real dogs talk and fall in love and have terribly big adventures … and offer absolutely nothing resembling wit or style or storyline or entertainment.

Barrymore lends her voice to the said mutt of the title, Chloe, who is taken on vacation to Mexico by human owner Curtis, and falls into the hands of dognappers.

She is befriended by Alsation Garcia while her boyfriend back in California, Papi (Lopez), sets out on a rescue mission.

And it’s all a load of rubbish.
