Brando was refused TV job

'Godfather' Marlon Brando reportedly tried to land a job as a daytime TV presenter shortly before his death in a bid to boost his bank balance.

According to the actor's former assistant, Brando contemplated selling goods on US home shopping channel QVC in 2000 - because he had only $9,000 (€£6,431) to his name.

And the star was so desperate to work for QVC, he allegedly held discussions with a network executive just a year before his death.

In a new book, Brando's aide Alice Marchak writes: "Marlon was serious about QVC. He had a meeting with a woman from the channel."

Brando died of respiratory failure in 2004 at the age of 80.
