'Gonzo' offers fascinating insight into Hunter S. Thompson

A superb documentary – narrated by Depp – recounting the life and times of the great hero of the counter-culture, a man of both wild excess and insight who speared the givens of life circa l965-75 (considered his most important period of searching, caustic journalism).

The film brings us a stream of revealing interviews, with the late Doctor himself as well as friends, colleagues and enemies, many of the clips being seen for the first time.

And it leaves us with the big question: where will the next Hunter S. come from?
