Madonna and Guy 'happy with divorce agreement'

Madonna and Guy Ritchie issued a joint statement today insisting that they are both happy with their divorce agreement.

The pair also said that a “misleading and inaccurate” statement, specifically relating to the sums of money involved, was wrongly issued this week.

They said: “The financial details of the settlement will remain private, save to say that both of us are happy with our agreement.

“Our primary concern, like any co-parents, is the care and well-being of our children.”

Earlier this week, Madonna's spokeswoman Liz Rosenberg said Ritchie would receive between $76m and $92m (€54 to €65 million) in cash and property which included the couple's country retreat Ashcombe House in Wiltshire.

The singer’s US representative said the couple’s west London pub – the Punchbowl – would also remain with Ritchie.

This would put have the settlement at about twice the amount Sir Paul McCartney paid to Heather Mills.

“I’d assume it’s one of the largest payouts ever in a divorce settlement,” Ms Rosenberg told the Associated Press (AP) at the time.

Ritchie’s representatives declined to comment.

But today, the joint statement from Ritchie and Madonna said: “We have tried to maintain a dignified silence regarding the details of our divorce for the last few months whilst accepting the obvious media interest.

“A misleading and inaccurate statement, specifically in relation to the sums of money involved, was wrongly issued to AP this week.”
