Cruise's friendly rematch with Lauer

Tom Cruise returned to US breakfast TV show Today on Monday, three years after he made headlines with a live rant against anti-depressant drugs.

During the broadcast in June 2005, Scientologist Cruise argued with interviewer Matt Lauer and criticised Brooke Shields' use of drugs to combat postnatal depression.

But the pair's Monday rematch was a friendlier affair - Cruise, promoting his new movie 'Valkyrie', collected toys from fans gathered outside the show's New York studio, for a Christmas charity drive.

And he admitted he regrets the "arrogant" comments he made when he last visited.

He told Lauer: "It's not what I had intended. I looked at myself and thought, that came across as arrogant. I learned a lesson."

Cruise also batted away questions about his baby plans with wife Katie Holmes - the mother of his two year old daughter Suri - replying: "I think that's a question for the woman."

And he revealed Holmes will be marking her 30th birthday on Thursday with a low-key celebration - as she is due onstage that night in Broadway play 'All My Sons'.

Cruise explained: "We're going to go to the theatre, and hang out."
