Guy Ritchie in line for £47m divorce settlement

Guy Ritchie could be in line for a divorce settlement of almost £50m (€56m), according to claims today.

The pop queen and the film director were granted a divorce last month, and some reports around the time claimed that Ritchie was walking away without a penny of Madonna's fortune, estimated at £300m (€335.7m).

However, a source close to the matter said today that they believed Ritchie would be receiving $60-$70m (€44-€51m) in cash and property which included the couple's country retreat Ashcombe House in Wiltshire.

A source close to Madonna's camp was also quoted in the Evening Standard, describing it as "one of the biggest celebrity divorce settlements".

"You can imagine how Madonna feels," the source told the newspaper.

"She has been very generous to him. It isn't about being acrimonious. It is just so inaccurate and unfair that people believe he walked away with nothing."

They said it was a matter of setting "the record straight".

But another source close to the negotiations put the figure much lower and said it could be closer to half that amount and at the bottom end of the scale.

The couple's marriage began as a fairytale wedding at the romantic Skibo Castle in the Highlands of Scotland.

But it came to an end with a "quickie divorce" at the Principal Registry of the Family Division in High Holborn, London.

When Heather Mills and Paul McCartney divorced, Mills received a settlement of £24.3m (€27.2m), after a bitter battle.

McCartney's fortune was put by the judge at £450m (€504m).
