'Inkheart' a missed opportunity

Another film based on a popular children’s book about a 12-year-old girl whose imaginative father has the ability to bring characters in books to life … with dangerous results when a villain emerges to threaten all around him.

It’s the sort of film that will appeal to early teens, even if it is ultimately a quite ordinary screen adaptation.

There is nothing truly innovative about it, the directing is merely adequate and a strong cast isn’t given the chance to make more of what could have been a surprise seasonal hit.
