'Hamlet 2' funny and inventive
Director: Andrew Fleming
Cast: Steve Coogan, David Arquette, Evan Adrian
We’ve had plenty of films about inspirational teachers working miracles with their unlikely pupils that we can only welcome this funny – and surprisingly good – parody in which the pupils inspire their hopeless teacher.
Coogan does an outstanding job as the consistently failing actor now reduced to teaching drama, with equal disaster.
Here, in a film that brings us a wonderful seam of political incorrectness, he revives his Alan Partridge character, a man with foot in mouth disease and an ability to turn silk purses into sow’s ears.
His class faces closure but his pupils have other ideas and produce a musical version of the Bard’s great tragedy - with hilarious results.
It has not been given rave reviews by the Stateside critics but while it’s not a great film it is a funny, entertaining and inventive one.
Star Rating: 3/5
