'My Best Friend’s Girl' smutty but funny

Director: Howard Deutch

Cast: Kate Hudson, Dane Cook, Alec Baldwin

Expectations are everything, so pitch yours low and this raunchy – often disgustingly offensive – romantic-comedy might get you through an evening.

The thing is that, against your best intentions, you’ll find it funny, in that early-teens, smutty, sexist sort of way that appeals to smutty early teens.

And, after all, it is a Dane Cook movie so if you know his work you’ll know what to expect. But it also promises more class than it delivers in Hudson and Baldwin.

The plot, too, offers some promise with Cook (playing Tank) being hired by a friend to take his former girlfriend on a date, just to show her what she’s missing.

Alas, the plot isn’t really developed since the film sinks into the smut … funnt smut, but smut nonetheless.
