Mayer in talks to host US variety show

John Mayer is in talks with network executives to take his singing talents to the small screen - as the

host of a weekly variety show.

The singer/songwriter is reportedly in negotiations with US TV network CBS to rock out with American TV audiences on a new 1960s-inspired music, variety and comedy sketch series.

According to Web site TMZ.com, Mayer will co-produce the show with Ken Ehrlich, who heads production of the Emmy and Grammy Awards.

Network executives reportedly plan to launch the show early next year.
