Beautiful 'The Fall' what the screen was invented for

You will wait a long time to see a film quite as stunningly visual as this, a not totally unexpected result of it being a Singh film.

Director: Tarsem Singh

Cast: Lee Pace, Catinca Untaru, Justine Waddell

You will wait a long time to see a film quite as stunningly visual as this, a not totally unexpected result of it being a Singh film.

It is also beautifully written – so much so that it leaves the viewer with many things to consider long after the cinema has been left – and contains a absolutely compelling performance from young Untaru that is touching, charming, funny and just about anything else positive you care to add.

The story, set in a l920s Los Angeles hospital, concerns injured movie stuntman Roy (Pace) who befriends Alexandria (Untaru) and entrances her with a running tale of six men on a quest to dispose of an evil governor, while at the same time asking her to roam the hospital in search of pain-killing drugs.

It is a story of rich originality and invention … it is, in short, what the screen was invented for.

Star Rating: 5/5
