Nicole Kidman is determined to shield her daughter Sunday Rose from the public gaze - describing herself as a "lioness" protecting her cubs.

Kidman, wife of country singer Keith Urban, gave birth in July, and admits it is tough being a parent in her 40s.

She is also the mother of adopted children, Bella, 15, and Connor, 13, from her previous marriage to Tom Cruise.

And the actress is adamant she will protect her children from outsiders.

She says: "At 41, it's a more painful love. It's almost like my heart is stretching - I'm feeling like all these muscles stretch with emotion. It's a beautiful love but there's a lot of fear and pain for her life,

and for Bella's and Connor's life.

"When it comes to my kids, I'm like a lioness. I'm like, no one gets near my babies."
