'Anton' examines Troubles with gusto

A powerful thriller, written by Fox for Cantwell’s feature debut, that has been two years in the making, that manages to cover that much-tramped territory of the turmoil of the recent civil unrest in the North.

Director: Graham Cantwell

Cast: Anthony Fox, Cillian Roche, Laura Way, Gerard McSorley

A powerful thriller, written by Fox for Cantwell’s feature debut, that has been two years in the making, that manages to cover that much-tramped territory of the turmoil of the recent civil unrest in the North.

That it does so with originality and gusto has much to do with the writing, directing and acting of a sterling cast.

Fox plays Anton O’Neill, a seaman who returns home - circa l970s - to find the Troubles across the border in the North threatening to engulf his native Cavan, forcing him into a world of paramilitary violence in which he must make personal choices.

Just when we thought we had shaken off our obsession with the troubles and evil terrorists Anton manages to bring us a last – hopefully – twist on our recent past.
