Director Robert Weide has assured fans actress Gillian Anderson is "fine" after the pregnant star took a tumble at the London premiere of their new movie 'How to Lose Friends and Alienate People'.

The 40-year-old star lost her balance on the red carpet outside Empire Leicester Square on Wednesday as she pretended to throw a punch at Weide.

Her fall drew gasps from the shocked crowd, but Anderson was soon back on her feet.

Weide insisted the actress was "fine", before joking, "Is there a lawyer in the house?"

Anderson is expecting a baby with long-term boyfriend Mark Griffiths.

The couple already has a 21-month-old son, Oscar, in addition to Anderson's teenage daughter Piper, 13, from her first marriage to Clyde Klotz.
