Blooming Anderson attends premiere

Heavily pregnant Gillian Anderson attended the premiere of her new film tonight - 'How to Lose Friends and Alienate People'.

'Hot Fuzz' and 'Shaun of The Dead' comedy star Simon Pegg, who plays the lead in the movie, was also on tonight’s red carpet.

'How To Lose Friends and Alienate People' is based on the best-selling book of the same name by British journalist Toby Young.

It chronicles Young’s ignominious period as a journalist at New York’s prestigious Vanity Fair magazine.

Pegg, 38, plays Young, whose bad manners and predilection for vulgar pranks win him no friends and cause monumental mishaps in New York.

The romantic comedy also stars 'Spiderman' actress Kirsten Dunst as the journalist’s love interest.

Dunst, who was reported to be in rehab in Utah earlier this year for depression, was not at tonight’s world premiere in London’s Leicester Square because she was said to be filming.

'Bleak House' and 'X Files' star Anderson, 40, did arrive, despite being eight months pregnant with her third child.

“I’m so close to popping out but the cravings have ended,” she said. “This time around, nectarines were the only thing that I had a craving for.”

Asked if she was planning to follow other celebrities by giving her baby an eccentric name, she said: “No I don’t think so. I have chosen something but I don’t think it’s crazy.”

The star looked glamorous despite her bump in Jimmy Choo shoes and a black and white striped figure-hugging Alice Temperley dress.

Pegg described the new film as a “rom-com with teeth”.

He said of working in New York: “I didn’t feel like a fish out of water. They are very welcoming over there and there’s very little cynicism which is very nice. Americans get a big kick out of British humour.”

Young, the author of the book joked: “I would have chosen Brad Pitt to play me...but Simon is a fundamentally decent guy and no matter how obnoxious he is the audience are still rooting for him.”

The film’s director Robert Weide, whose credits also include cult comedy 'Curb Your Enthusiasm', said of adapting the novel to the movie: “Toby read the script and wasn’t too territorial about it. He understood that changes needed to be made.”

Anderson was married to art director Clyde Klotz from 1994-1997 and split from her second husband, documentary maker Julian Ozanne, in 2006.

She is expecting a baby with Mark Griffiths, a wheel-clamping firm director, who has been previously linked to Geri Halliwell, in October.
