Thousands prepare for Fatboy Slim beach party

About 20,000 revellers are preparing to turn out on Brighton seafront at the weekend for Fatboy Slim's Big Beach Boutique 4 party.

The Hove-based DJ, real name Norman Cook, will perform to a sell-out crowd on Saturday night after support acts including Beardyman, Danny Tanaglia and Layo & Bushwacka.

The last time Fatboy Slim staged a similar event was on a rain-soaked New Year's Day in 2007, with some of the profits donated to the children's hospital charity the Rockinghorse Appeal.

The stage will be set on Madeira Drive near the Concorde 2 venue.

Brighton and Hove City Council has set up a noise hotline for residents to call if levels reach too high.

A team of litterpickers paid for by the promoters of the event are expected to clear the site of any rubbish by midday on Monday, a city council spokesman said.

There will be no performance on Friday as was originally planned. Fatboy Slim will instead take to the stage from 8.45pm until 9.45pm on the Saturday before the event ends.

The city council spokesman said: "We've worked for months with organisers, emergency services and transport providers to ensure the show goes off as smoothly as last year and a great time should be had by all again."
