Rocker Courtney Love has spoken out in defence of her friend Russell Brand - after the British comic was criticised for his risque gags at the recent MTV Video Music Awards.

Brand - who hosted Sunday's ceremony - came under fire for mocking The Jonas Brothers' sexual morals and ridiculing the trio's decision not to have sex before marriage.
