OJ trial gets off to a quiet start

OJ Simpson made a subdued entrance to a Las Vegas court today to face charges including kidnapping and armed robbery.

His low-key arrival was a sharp contrast to his starring role in the so-called “trial of the century” more than 10 years ago when he was acquitted of his wife’s murder.

The former American football star, who has said he puts his faith in the jury, declined to answer questions but smiled and waved when one person called out “Good luck!”.

The 61-year-old arrived at the Clark County Regional Justice Centre in central Las Vegas at about 7.30am local time (3.30pm Irish time) with his lawyers and his friend Tom Scotto.

There were no protesters and few people were there to greet him.
