Portman's directorial debut has fans queuing at Venice Festival

A screening of the movie marking Natalie Portman’s debut as a director opened the short films section of the Venice Film Festival today.

Film fans queued round the block to see 'Eve', which includes Lauren Bacall and Ben Gazzara in the cast.

The movie concerns a young woman named Kate, who visits her grandma Lola for dinner, and is surprised to find her grandma is on a date with a man named Joe.

Portman, who was on the jury at this year’s Cannes Film Festival and is a Harvard University graduate, has said that she has always had a fascination with the younger generation.

Such was the clamour to get in that hundreds of people were left outside as the cinema filled up.
