Goody suffering from 'life threatening' cervical cancer

Reality TV star Jade Goody is suffering from “advanced and life threatening” cervical cancer, a court in the UK was told today.

But doctors gave her the all clear just before she took part in the Indian version of Big Brother, when she first heard she had cancer, Goody told GMTV this morning.

The 27-year-old had spent a week in hospital before the show after she had experienced stomach pains and blood loss but doctors put this down to stress and a bad period when blood tests came back clear.

Smear tests to detect cervical cancer had previously all showed up pre-cancerous cells in her womb.

But Goody said: “Each time they burnt them off and said there was nothing to worry about. They didn’t do anything. I’m not knocking them but they didn’t know what was wrong with me. I didn’t want to leave hospital again not knowing what was wrong with me.”

When Goody was first told she had cancer on Big Boss in India she thought it “was a hoax” as she had never considered she might have cancer.

Further details of her illness were given during a court case today involving her ex-boyfriend Jack Tweed at Chelmsford Crown Court in the UK.

Barrister Andre de Moller told the court: “Jade Goody suffers from cervical cancer. It has been very recently diagnosed. It is advanced and life threatening.

“She is due to undergo an operation in two weeks’ time and is likely to be on chemotherapy.”

He said Tweed, 21, and Goody had started living together in recent weeks.
