Great cast make the most of 'Get Smart' script

This vehicle for the always-excellent Steve Carell may not quite match the wit and silliness of the original, but it’s still a lot of fun.

‘Get Smart’ is based on the long-running and popular TV series of the l960s – featuring the bungling but well-meaning spy Maxwell Smart and his organisation’s relentless battle against the evil Kaos.

Carell carries the film – perhaps too much is expected of him – but there is an excellent cast making the most of a script that ought to have been better.

The antics of Smart are, as always, pulled from the fire by the more competent Agent 99 and, overall, the wandering plotline provides enough moments of enjoyment.
