Disgraced Glitter released from prison

Gary Glitter was released today from prison in Vietnam, where he was serving a three-year sentence for child sex offences, Vietnamese authorities said.

The shamed former glam rock singer, real name Paul Gadd, was to be driven from Thu Duc to Ho Chi Minh City Airport, and is expected to arrive in London tomorrow morning.

Glitter, 64, was jailed in March 2006 after he was convicted of molesting two girls aged 10 and 11. His sentence was later reduced for good behaviour.

His lawyer Le Thanh Kinh said Glitter told him he wanted to return to the UK, had a ticket to London and was eagerly anticipating his release.

Mr Kinh said Glitter left prison at 11.30am local time (5.30am Irish time). He said he was then being driven the 90 miles to the airport, which is expected to take between three and four hours.
