'Summer of the Flying Saucer' may appeal to pre-teens

Director: Martin Duffy

Cast: Robert Sheehan, Hugh O’Connor, Joanne Kernan

Cert: PG

An Irish film set in a small town in the West that tries to be quirky and charming but doesn’t quite make it.

It’s nice but slow and, in places, poorly executed.

Sheehan, the one cast member promising much still to come, plays a teenager returning to the family farm and his father who can’t quite grasp that his son wants more from life.

Then the son comes across a couple of stranded aliens – including the pretty Kernan – who need help in getting, ET-like, back home.

The pace of the film needed to be swifter but it’s the sort of film that might appeal to pre-teens.
