James Brown memorabilia goes under the hammer

James Brown’s furniture and medical bracelet fetched top bids at a New York City auction of his possessions today.

The items were among more than 300 lots of the Godfather of Soul’s belongings offered at Christie’s auction house.

A red leather sofa, matching loveseat and armchair fetched $40,000.

Musician Paul Shaffer bid $32,500 for Brown’s medical bracelet and $10,000 for a Hammond organ.

Also on the block was the soul singer’s denim jumpsuit – worn for the 1974 concert preceding the 'Rumble In The Jungle' boxing bout between Muhammad Ali and George Foreman.

Brown died on Christmas Day in 2006 of heart failure at the age of 73.
