Producers of Madonna's upcoming world tour have blasted reports Britney Spear will join her in a live stage performance.

The pop superstar had reportedly asked Spears to join her on her 'Sticky & Sweet' tour earlier this month in a bid to help the troubled star resurrect her own singing career.

While Spears will appear with Madonna in a short video that will be broadcast on big screens during the show, she will not be taking to the stage with the Material Girl hitmaker, reports the New York Daily News.

The tour is set to kick off on August 23 in Wales. The pair last shared the stage during their 2003 performance at the MTV Music Awards - when they stunned fans by sharing a passionate kiss.

Spears is also rumoured to be working with producers Rodney 'Darkchild' Jerkins and her ex-boyfriend JR Rotem on her own comeback album, the follow-up to 'Blackout', which was released in October.
