Day Lewis mesmerising in ‘There Will Be Blood’
Daniel Day Lewis turns in another mesmerising performance in ‘There Will Be Blood’ (BVHE, €24.99) as Daniel Plainview, a down on his luck miner who, with his son, heads for the town of Little Boston where he strikes oil and where his life and the lives of those around him is transformed.
Plainview is an ugly, conniving, manipulative and thieving oil baron, but as usual Day Lewis turns him into a fascinating personality from the long, silent opening minutes onwards.
A study of power and corruption in turn-of-the century California, it’s an unremittingly dark tale.
Extras include deleted scenes and an intriguing silent film on the oil world in the 1920s.
