Jay-Z steals show with Oasis cover

Tens of thousands of revellers are hoping to return home relatively dry after the Glastonbury Festival draws to a close tonight.

The legendary event has seen both rainfall and glorious sunshine – with the infamous Glastonbury mud returning on Friday, but quickly drying up yesterday.

This year’s event only just sold out and will be remembered for founder Michael Eavis’ controversial decision to give the premier Saturday night headline slot to Jay-Z.

Experts were hailing the booking an unprecedented success last night however.

In a blistering performance full of swagger and bombast, the New York rapper hit back at criticism from Oasis’ Noel Gallagher by performing his own version of the Oasis hit Wonderwall.

It appeared something of a triumph for Mr Eavis and his daughter, Emily, who said it was about time Glastonbury moved away from predominantly white, guitar-based bands.

The total 180,000 on site, including staff, wake up hoping for similar weather to yesterday – beautiful sunshine and no sign of rain.

However, Gareth Harvey, forecaster for MeteoGroup UK, the weather division of the Press Association, said there was a chance of showers today.

Brit-pop veterans The Verve will close the festival on the Pyramid Stage tonight, with appearances from pop legends Neil Diamond and Leonard Cohen earlier in the day.
