'Wanted' a contender for best summer blockbuster

Cast: Angelina Jolie, James McAvoy, Morgan Freeman

A strong contender for the summer blockbuster crown, with McAvoy making an impressive big-budget Hollywood debut as the unwitting son of a former assassin being recruited by Jolie for the role of saviour of mankind from all manner of evil.

Freeman is on hand in what has become his customary role of all-round nice guy to guide and mentor.

It’s well done, to be sure, with a wide range of excellent special F/X and at least it’s not a comic book rip-off nor a follow-up to a worn-out superhero series.
