Musical challenge for 'Big Brother' housemates

Big Brother has challenged the housemates to learn a musical instrument and perform together as an orchestra.

The 15 remaining residents were given simple instructions on how to play their chosen instruments, plus an hour to rehearse 'When The Saints Go Marching In'.

Housemates then had to give a rendition of the piece as the Big Brother Orchestra.

Darnell Swallow received the task details in the diary room and relayed them to the housemates.

As soon as he finished explaining the challenge, the competitors began shouting out for their favourite instrument.

“I’ll take the triangle,” said Luke Marsden.

“Recorder,” Alexandra De-Gale requested.

When the store room opened, the housemates rushed to find their chosen instruments.

A beaming Rachel Rice grabbed the flute, Mario Marconi took the tuba, Rex Newmark collected the timpani drum and Alexandra dragged away the recorder she wanted.

Darnell – chosen as the “most musical housemate” – was the conductor while Dennis McHugh was the vocalist.

Big Brother said they would be expected to stick at their particular instrument for the duration of their time in the house.

The task came a day after blonde Liverpudlian Stephanie McMichael was the first to be voted out of the ninth series of the Channel Four reality show.

Some of her housemates shed a few tears after her departure and Jennifer Clark said in the diary room she was shocked that Stephanie had got the boot.

However, conversations soon turned to other things and Jennifer and Dale Howard shared flirty conversations while lying on the sofa together in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Dale had earlier confessed to Sylvia Barrie that he liked Jennifer.

The pair then shared an awkward moment after yesterday’s orchestra challenge.

While the housemates were settling down after their final performance of 'When The Saints Come Marching In', Jennifer and Dale returned to the sofas for some quality time together.

“Won’t it be weird when you go out and do normal shopping and stuff, if you’re with someone else from the house?” Jennifer asked.

“What do you mean?” replied Dale.

Jennifer suggested that the loss of anonymity after Big Brother would intensify if two housemates were together, adding: “Say me and you are sitting in a cafe...”

However, when Dale asked if she thought about that sort of scenario a lot, Jennifer said: “No”.

The conversation continued in a similar vein before Jennifer collapsed into giggles.

“What are you laughing at?” Dale said. “The fact that I’ve just gone down in a blaze?”
