'The Happening' a return to form for Shyamalan

Another tale of impending eco-doom – from the master of the nail-chewing – as a battered old world strikes back at humanity through a horrible substance that offs those who come near it.

Wahlberg and Deschanel lead a cast that does its best, with mixed results, to keep us interested, both in the immediate fate of humankind and in the ‘message’ that we’d better start looking after Earth.

With Shyamalan at the helm it is a film with more going for it than the usual ‘heading for disaster’ dramas.
