Joaquin Phoenix was forced to cancel an appearance at the Cannes Film Festival after a nasty bout of stomach flu left him unable to board his flight to France.
The Oscar nominee was due to attend the premiere of his new movie Two Lovers at the festival on Monday, but pulled out at the last minute after doctors banned him from travelling.
His spokeswoman Susan Patricola tells People.com: "Joaquin has the stomach flu. He had his dog boarded, his tux in hand but couldn't even sit on the plane.
"He did go to the hospital to get hydrated, hoping he could get on the plane... He was so sick - and so sorry he couldn't be there with everyone."
