New play probes modern values in Ireland

The values of modern Ireland are to be highlighted in a new play staged by one of the country’s most successful independent production companies.

The makers behind 'I, Keano' and 'Alone It Stands' are about to take their next production on a nationwide tour.

'Over And Out' takes a funny but poignant look at new Ireland from the viewpoint of three Dublin security guards.

Dealing with key issues like racism and homophobia, it features the three friends, their Polish boss, a university lecturer, a moral dilemma and a foreign bride.

The cast features former Fair City star Joe Hanley, John Olohan, from Glenroe, and David O’Meara, who appeared in I, Keano.

Produced by Lane Productions, 'Over And Out' is the second script penned by playwright Robert Massey, who had a big hit with the much acclaimed play Deadline in recent years.

Despite its success, Dublin-born Massey, a UCD commerce graduate who completed his postgraduate degree in marketing at the Smurfit School of Business, still works in sales.

The play holds a mirror up to the hypocrisy rooted in the Ireland of yesterday, looking at how we accept people whom we perceive to be different.

'Over And Out' opens at The Civic Theatre, Tallaght, on May 27, before starting a nationwide tour to Dun Laoghaire, Blanchardstown, Ennis, Cork, Thurlas, Waterford, Portlaoise, Kilkenny and Nass.
