Doherty and Barat reunite to write musical

Former Libertines bandmates Pete Doherty and Carl Barat are reuniting for the first time in five years to create a new musical.

The former pals went their separate ways when Doherty was sacked from the band in 2003, after failing to beat his drug addictions. Doherty was also convicted and jailed for burgling Barat's London home.

Now performing in different bands, the two are reteaming to create the music for a new London show at the Donmar Warehouse theatre.

Barat says: "The theatre wants lots of new songs. We'll probably have to write about 20. But first we have to sit down and think about the rock 'n' roll story".

The project, which is reportedly about an up-and-coming rock group, will have to wait until Doherty is released from a 14-week jail sentence for "breach of time-keeping, non-compliance of his (probation) order and using different drugs".
