Irish director's debut 'Botched' a disappointment

Director: Kit Ryan

Cast: Alan Smyth, Stephen Dorff, Sean Pertwee, Bronagh Gallagher

Cert: 15

It's a pity local director Ryan’s debut movie is such a disappointment - and with a title crying out for adverse comment - because there might have been a better film buried there, somewhere.

Basically, the plot is all over the place – incompetent robber Dorff steals some diamonds but runs into problems while fleeing (his companions are killed in a car crash, he loses the stones and is sent off on another job, as a punishment, by his Russian mob boss, Pertwee) – and can’t decide if it’s a straight crime drama or a comedy heist romp.

Can’t be the latter, though, since it isn’t funny and not the former either since there’s nothing about it that keeps us on the edge of our seats.
