Search begins for young stars for Gaiety musical

A countrywide search began today for three young budding performers to star in a new musical.

Producers of 'Sleeping Beauty' are auditioning eight to 14-year-olds to play the role of The All Knowing Child in its pre-West End run in the Gaiety Theatre.

The successful candidates will have to sing, act, and fly across the stage as they grasp the role of the mythical creature.

The youngsters will also be cast alongside Coronation Street stars Lucy Evans and Bruno Langley and Danny John Jules of 'Red Dwarf' for the world premiere in the capital.

Producer John Ward said 'Sleeping Beauty' is a brand new family musical which follows in the tradition of the accessible but still musically beautiful scores of Lionel Bart.

"In producing this work, I've tried to encourage my team to strive for excellence in creating an escapist, engrossing story whilst combining modern techniques used in film effects and animation spectacle to compliment this brand new, truly gorgeous and melodic score," he said.

"A world-famous story told in a brand new way which will be a treat for all the family."

'Sleeping Beauty', which opens on Thursday, May 22, centres around the character of Rosie, a downtrodden librarian in the village Snooze, a place long-deserted by the younger generation and inhabited by a set of grumpy senior citizens.

Open auditions will take place in the Gaiety Theatre next Thursday and Friday. All applicants must register by Tuesday.
