Oscar-winning director signs up Farrell

Hollywood actor Colin Farrell will star in the latest epic from Oscar winning film maker Danis Tanovic, it was announced today.

Farrell has been cast alongside Paz Vega and screen legend Christopher Lee in 'Triage', a movie based on the novel by Scott Anderson.

The Dubliner will be an executive producer on the film, which begins production this month at the Ciudad de la Luz studios in Alicante, Spain, before it is shot on location in Ireland.

Farrell ('In Bruges', 'Intermission') plays Mark, a photojournalist returning home from a dangerous assignment.

When his colleague and best friend fails to return home, Mark’s girlfriend, Elena (Vega), must find the clues to the mystery that’s slowly killing her boyfriend.

Vega shot to stardom with her dazzling, award-winning performance in 'Sex & Lucia' and has since appeared in Pedro Almodovar’s 'Talk To Her'.

The Spanglish actress most recently completed Frank Miller’s 'The Spirit' opposite Scarlett Johansson, Eva Mendes and Samuel L Jackson.

The novel has been adapted by writer/director Tanovic, who came to international prominence in 2001 when 'No Man’s Land' won over 25 awards, including the Oscar for Best Foreign Film and Best Screenplay at the Cannes Film Festival.

'Triage' will be produced by Alan Moloney ('Intermission', 'Breakfast on Pluto'), Cedomir Kolar ('Before the Rain') and Marc Baschet ('No Man’s Land', 'Before The Rain').

Alan Moloney said: “Danis has written a powerful and moving script with a universal appeal.

“The prospect of himself and Colin Farrell working together alongside the beauty and talent of Paz Vega and an icon of cinema like Christopher Lee is very exciting for us all.”

The epic is being made by ASAP Films and Parallel Films in co-production with Aramid Entertainment, Tornasol Films/Freeform, the Irish Film Board and Hanway Films.

Tim Haslam, of Hanway Films, said 'Triage' promises to be an award-winning film.

“It’s an intensely moving story about friendship and family with broad international resonance,” he added.

“Danis Tanovic is a visionary and, in Farrell, Vega and Lee, he directs powerful and highly charismatic actors.”

HanWay are responsible for worldwide sales and will start selling the film at the Cannes Film Festival.
