Christian Bale mesmerises in 'Rescue Dawn'

Christian’s Bale mesmerising performance in Werner Herzog’s 'Rescue Dawn' (Pathé, €24.99) at times makes for difficult viewing.

Bale plays US fighter pilot Dieter Dengler, who is taken prisoner in Laos when his plane crash lands. When he is united with fellow prisoners Duane (Steve Zahn) and Gene (Jeremy Davies), he rebels against their shattered spirits and is determined to escape.
